The 73rd Primetime Emmys are still a ways off, but the nominees for TV's biggest awards were announced on Tuesday. Perhaps against the odds, the competition is as exciting as ever this year -- The Mandalorian and The Crown lead the pack with 24 nods each.
The Emmys also makes history this year -- Mj Rodriguez, who plays Blanca in FX's Pose, is nominated for best drama actress, becoming the first transgender performer to be nominated in a major acting category.
Surprising no one, HBO's Mare of Easttown is vying for 16 awards, including best actress for Kate Winslet and best miniseries. Even Disney Plus smash hit WandaVision is representing the sci-fi/fantasy genre with 28 nods, the third highest, including best limited series actress (Elizabeth Olsen), best limited series actor (Paul Bettany), best limited series supporting actress (Kathryn Hahn) and best miniseries.
The Queen's Gambit and The Crown are Netflix's biggest titles, with a best limited series actress nomination for Anya Taylor-Joy and best drama actress for Emma Corrin. Amazon Prime Video joins the party with a best drama series shout for The Boys. For the full list of nominees, scroll down.
The 2021 Emmys award ceremony takes place on Sunday, Sept. 19.
