Jim Carrey is calling it quits on his political cartoons, a passion project that made waves during former President Donald Trump's administration.
Carrey wrote on Twitter on Saturday that he's stopping the cartoons, often dark caricatures of Trump and his supporters, to "reclaim a little neurological bandwidth."
The "Dumb and Dumber" actor took a parting shot at his usual target, referring to Trump as "Orange Julius Caesar" ruling "his Empire of Lies."
"For the past 4 yrs, among other commitments, I put considerable effort into this collection of political protest cartoons. It truly feels as though you and I have crossed an ocean of outrage together," Carrey wrote. "But something tells me it's time to rest my social media gavel."
Carrey stopped performing as then President-elect Joe Biden on "Saturday Night Live" in December.
Why he did it: Jim Carrey draws Trump cartoons because 'I can't just watch this nightmare unfold'
In his statement Saturday, Carrey said it was important to call out Trump's actions while he was president. "I just assumed that a radicalized America is a threat to us all. When a madman grabs the wheel of the bus loaded with innocent passengers and threatens to drive it off a cliff, it tend to steal everyone's focus."
Dear Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery @NPG, I know it’s early but I’d like to submit this as the official portrait of our 45th President, Donald J. Trump. It’s called, 'You Scream. I Scream. Will We Ever Stop Screaming?' pic.twitter.com/LrCmlXXpv7

Speaking before TV journalists in 2018, Carrey said the commentary was an imperative.
"It's not a choice to be doing the cartoons. I'm doing (them) because I can't just watch this nightmare unfold," he said.
On Feb. 13, Carrey's final political drawing featured Trump holding a nearly burnt out sparkler, titled "American virtue."
His farewell painting was a self-portrait, arms outstretched, in front of a door. "In case I don't see ya'" Carrey wrote above it.
