A large photograph of the Birmingham skyline had a cameo during Dan Levy’s opening monologue on “Saturday Night Live” Saturday.
Levy led viewers on a comedic backstage tour of the iconic “SNL” set in New York, joking about COVID-19 preparations and interacting with cast members like Kenan Thompson.
Toward the end of the monologue, Levy’s father, actor Eugene Levy, “surprises” his son, stating that he had flown in from Los Angeles for the taping. But the elder Levy, continuing the monologue gag, expresses dismay over having to be kept in an “isolation box” as a coronavirus safety concern.
The scene plays out in front of a sizeable photograph of the Birmingham skyline that appears to have been used in a prior episode of the NBC sketch show.
Printed faintly along the far-right side of the photograph are the words “Alabama Ads (Doug Jones) Air Date 12/9/17.” No reference is made to the image, and it’s unclear why it was in the background of the shot.
Levy, the breakout star of the Canadian sitcom “Schitt’s Creek,” hosted “SNL” for the first time Saturday night. Singer Phoebe Bridgers was the musical guest.
